In 2020, the Federation Board decided to create a completely new honorary award – an award named “The Stirrup” – based on a desire to pay tribute to extraordinary efforts and initiatives to promote equestrian sports also outside of one’s own organization. The first recipient of this honorary award was veterinarian and researcher Maria Terese Engell.

In March 2024, our founder Maria Terese Engell was appointed to the Norwegian Equestrian Federation's Horse Welfare Council. The members of this council are appointed for 2 years at a time, and will, among other things, function as an advisory body to the federation board, NRYF's administration, committees and other groups within the Norwegian Equestrian Federation.
